I don't think theres anything we'll be able to do to fix it. Maybe Anet didnt think there would be so many new accounts and its putting a huge strain on there servers so some crashed.
EDIT: its working now
EDIT 2: I managed to get 3 random areana games in before it died out on me, back to square 1

I see a bunch of you are from Australian guilds...
Turns out optus is having issues with one of hops in singapore (Going by what was said in the other thread, a singapore ISP is having hefty problems).
Us Optus-goers are just gonna have to weather this one out it seems

I'm from Singapore and I have the exact same problem. I can log on to my PvE char in a PvE town, but not on PvP char or a PvP arena. Plus i can't get into guildwars.com either.. maybe the load is too much, plus the fact we're so far from the servers.. sigh.. was looking forward to it.. oh well..

I was loading the game the other day...then it stops at connection. I thought "Ohh..No...not me too..."
Then I realized it was Norton Internet Security waiting for me to OK the download...*sigh*

I posted this in another thread but I guess it is usefull here too;
I don't know if this will help but;
I played fine with all my chars until this evening. Suddenly GW was a hell; total lag all over the place. I could connect to Arenanet just fine, with over 400kb/sec speeds.
But after the logging in it was a total disaster. As soon as I entered any place, a few seconds after everything freezed. Even the chat was not working, or it took ages to appear. It seemed my connection speed was totally smashed to pieces.
I played fine before, so I guessed reinstalling would solve the problem, it didn't. Then I changed modems and suddenly the problem was solved, very weired. Then I entered the modem set-up of my main modem and saw that my fix IP number was unchecked. I checked it and started GW, all worked fine again.
I don't know why all of a sudden this ruined the gameplay but fixing the IP certainly helped, I played all night without any problems, hope this will do the same for you.

Hmm, I encountered this problem a couple days ago right after my connection reset (I'm on dialup).
I started up Guild Wars fine, it did the update check and all that fun stuff, then when I got to the login page, the monthly news ticket didn't show up. After I tried to login, it would hang at "connecting", then finally it gives me an error=052.
Getting pissed off at it, I reinstalled the game and was able to log in after the client updates were done. Once I was able to choose which character I wanted to play, it went to the portal and downloaded the in-game updates. While downloading all those updates my connection reset again. Upon trying to log in once more, the game hangs at connecting...
Getting really pissed off, I though, heh, I need a format so why not. So I did a format, installed windows and installed the client and did the client updates. Upon trying to login once more, it hung at connecting...
Thing is, I have a dual boot on this maching running a 2.12 kernel of FC4, and was able to log into that. I copied the dat and client to a dual OS accessible drive and then copied those files to my Guild Wars folder that is on my XP disc. I ran the game client on XP, and it hung at connecting...
I am stumped... I havn't changed any of my securty settings. I run multiple antivirus and firewall applications, but have made sure all are set on correct security settings to allow guild wars to connect. I have also disabled everything for the short period of time to let GW try to connect.
Help?
